After we re-group from our morning of fundraising, the Labor Day games and ping pong tournament will be going from 2:00 PM –4:00 PM. There will be candy four our game participants and awards for the top ping-pongers! Guests are welcome for the labor day games.

Sadly, the pool is closed for the day due to air quality. The AQI is now over 150ppm. We are making this decision based on the health and safety of our guards and you, our patrons.
We have installed a PurpleAir air quality sensor at the pool and will be using that to make our decisions about closing. You can see it over on the sidebar of this website (only visible on mobile if you turn your phone to landscape orientation).
We will be making the call about whether or not we will be open for early lap swim tomorrow at 9pm tonight and will send out another email and update the website.

Pool will be open at 1:00pm for open swim. If the AQI rises above 150ppm, we will be closing. As always check our website to see the current AQI reading at the pool.
As you are probably seeing as you look outside, smoke season has begun. Hopefully it passes soon, but I have a feeling this is going to be an off and on again problem until closing for us. As we make our way through the last few weeks of our season, I want to remind everyone of how we will be making decisions about closing due to smoke.
If the AQI enters into the upper range of unhealthy for sensitive groups, we will begin to consider closing pool operations. That means as it enters into the 140’s we will begin to consider closing based on who is available to work. If the AQI goes above 150, pushing us into the “unhealthy for all” we will close pool operations.
If we have to close, we will likely be closed for the remainder of the day. There may be exceptions to this, and reopening may happen. Reopening on the same day in which we close will depend upon the air quality and the availability and ability of our staff to find transportation back to the pool.
As we move forward, if bad air quality is predicted, we will be making proactive decisions based on this schedule as much as we can:
Early Morning Lap Swim: Email communication with decision will be made and sent out at 9pm (the previous night)
Aerobics & Water Polo: Email communication with decision will be made and sent out at 7am
Swim Lessons: Email communication with decision will be made and sent out at 9am
Opening at 1pm: Email communication with decision will be made and sent out at 12pm
If the air quality takes a quick turn and pushes above 150, we will be closing immediately.
We now have a PurpleAir quality sensor at the pool so we will be using the readings from our sensor to make our decisions. Those readings are uploaded to our website wedgwoodpool.com (found on the right side just below the calendar). The readings are also uploaded to the “Air Quality” app, using the PurpleAir AQI tab in the app (found on the bottom of the screen). You can see our dot right next to the pool on the map there. Readings are uploaded every 10 minutes.
Our staff and your health and safety are at the center of our decisions to closed due to poor air quality. Thank you for being flexible and understanding as we deal with this changing environment we find ourselves in.

Water aerobics: One more week to get your movement in with our wonderful instructors. They have enjoyed it as much as you all have! The schedule this week goes like this:

Swim-A-Thon Raising Money for No More Under:
Still time to sign up! If you have a friend who would like to support the cause, feel free to invite them to join us in raising money and swimming for No More Under. Share this flyer with them so they can participate in whatever capacity they might like!
Labor Day Games: Labor Day Games will be running from 2:00 – 4:00 PM with the Annual ping pong tournament back in action! Come down and celebrate the end of summer season at Wedgwood and the beginning of the school year with us.
Water Polo: We will be hosting two more nights of games this summer. Thursday 8/24 we will be hosting games against Blue Ridge with the deep end closing at 4:30pm (shallow end stays open until 9pm)
We will also be hosting the league championships on Thursday 8/31. This will be a fun afternoon/evening of top notch water polo being played by the top teams in the league. We will be closing the deep end at 3:30pm on 8/31 to accommodate all of the games that will be played.

I know it is still this summer, but it is time to start looking ahead to next summer! We are looking to add a group of new guards to our wonderful staff for next summer. If you are interested or know of someone who might be, please follow the instructions below to find the application.

Air quality still quite nasty. Forecast does not show a definitive or significant likelihood that it will clear by tomorrow morning so EMLS is cancelled for 8/21.
It is now 4:45pm and conditions have not improved. AQI has stayed consistent around 190PPM. We are going to remain closed for the rest of today 8/20.
Tonight at 9pm we are going to make a decision about early morning lap swim for tomorrow.
We will be making the decision tonight so our lifeguards do not have to go to sleep not knowing if they will need to be in to open the pool in the morning.

Mid August – less than a month left to enjoy these hot late summer days at the pool! Looking ahead at the forecast this week, it looks like it is going to be a heater so I am expecting so see many of you coming down for a swim. If you are planning to bring a large group (more than 6) feel free to give us a call at least a day ahead so we can schedule a party for you. This will allow you to bring your guests without using your guest passes (they will still cost $7.50 per guest). By doing this not only will you will save those guest passes, but you will also be helping the staff out by allowing us to plan ahead with scheduling extra guards if we know we are going to have a busy couple of hours at the pool. Water Show: Coming in hot this week! Saturday night at sundown is when the show begins. We will be closing the pool down at 7:00 PM to get all set up for the big night. Come down for a night of music and dancing put on by your staff and their talented and brave dance squads! **also remember we will be closing at 7:00 PM on Friday 8/18 for the dress rehearsal**
Swim-A-Thon And Labor Day Games: Join us on Labor Day for a morning of fund raising for No More Under. No More Under is a local non-profit organization dedicated to saving lives through water safety education, legislation, and increasing equitable access to swimming lessons and tools.

Dessert Potluck: Come join the senior pool members on the upper deck Tuesday, August 29th 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Bring and appetizer or dessert to share or just drop by for a gathering of familiar faces, hearty laughs and summer memories of yore.
Outdoor Showers: As per our health department inspection last week, we can no longer use soap at the outdoor showers. I know this has become a favorite spot for those soapy showers for many of you, but to comply with health codes, we are no longer able to do so. Please continue to use them for your pre swim showers and for your post swim showers to rinse off, but keep the soap in the locker rooms please.
