General Pool Rules

General Rules

These are the General Rules for Wedgwood Swim Pool, Inc. located at 7728 28th Ave NE Seattle, WA 98115.  Any reference to ‘Pool Property’ is any property owned by the pool at this address.

The following activities are prohibited on Pool Property or in any interaction with pool staff, board members, volunteers, or contractors relating to any pool business.

  • Consuming alcoholic beverages, except for pool sponsored special events where authorization from the Board of Directors has been obtained*
  • Using recreational or illicit drugs including, but not limited to, the use of tobacco or cannabis products and vaping*
  • Defacing or vandalizing Pool Property (buildings, fixtures, pool, grounds, signs or other structures)
  • Assault or fighting as defined in SMC 12A.06
  • Carrying or possessing weapons – Weapons are broadly defined as firearms, “dangerous weapons” as defined in RCW 9.41.205, nunchaku, throwing stars, “explosive devices”, BB guns, pellet guns, air guns, slingshots, hand clubs, knives, box cutters, stun guns, and taser guns. The definition of weapon also includes any object, device, or instrument that is being used with the intent to harm a person or is displayed with the intent to intimidate another person. Exceptions to this policy include: (1) individuals engaged in authorized law enforcement activities, (2) employees, vendors/contractors, and volunteers who possess devices or objects that are used in the course of their work (e.g., tools, box cutter or kitchen knife), and (3) kitchen knives when possessed and used for food preparations and culinary purposes.
  • Abusive or harassing behavior, including use of obscene language or gestures as defined in SMC12A.06
  • Conduct that creates an unreasonable and substantial risk of harm to any person
  • Conduct that unreasonably deprives others of their use or enjoyment of the pool and facilities
  • Conduct that would constitute a violation of civil or criminal law
  • Disruption of any pool business, event or other sponsored activity

Anyone who is engaging in the above activities or whose presence at the pool poses a safety risk to themselves or others is subject to consequences which may include suspension or termination of the membership as determined by the board of directors and/or managers.

*Persons suspected of being under the influence of drugs and alcohol will be asked to leave the facility

Pool Rules

  • All swimmers must take a shower before entering the pool. SHOWERS ARE ALSO REQUIRED AFTER SUNBATHING OR LEAVING THE POOL AREA TO REMOVE LOTIONS, GRASS, PERSPIRATION, ETC.
  • Remove all bandages, hairpins, and other items, likely to fall off, before entering the pool.
  • People in “street clothes,” shoes or eating food or drinking beverages must remain behind the ropes.
  • No glass (or other breakable or sharp objects) are allowed in the pool area or building.
  • Alcoholic beverages are not permitted. (except for special adult membership functions authorized by the Board).
  • Smoking and vaping are prohibited on pool property. (Includes chewing tobacco)
  • Sunbathing and/or the use of lawn furniture is limited to designated areas behind the ropes.
  • Always walk (on the deck AND on the grass).
  • No “horse-play” in or out of the water. This includes riding on shoulders or unsafe stunts from the side of the pool.
  • Talk to the guards only when necessary.
  • No cut-off jeans allowed in the pool.
  • Toys and balls must be approved by the staff. Toys will be limited to use by very young children in the wading pool. The staff has the right to restrict games and the use of equipment to time and place.
  • PDF’s or other flotation devices are not generally permitted during open swim time.
  • Non-swimmers, under the age of 10, who cannot swim a length of the pool will not be admitted unless accompanied by a competent member of the family or responsible baby-sitter (14 or over). These children must be attended at all times while in any portion of the pool.
  • Valuables may be checked at the pool office. Wedgwood Pool or staff are not responsible for items left in the dressing rooms.
  • No cell phones allowed in the dressing rooms.
  • The office telephone is for emergency calls and official business. Outgoing calls will be limited to one minute. Messages for patrons will be written on the white board placed in the back window of the office.
  • Early morning swimmers must be 18 or over, except for those teenagers with full-time jobs (such cases must be cleared by the manager); no guests allowed at early morning lap swim.
  • Lap lane swimmers must be 16 or over, unless the guard gives permission. Lap swimmers should observe the following common lap lane courtesies: swim in a circle (down the right side), leave room at the end of the lane for turning swimmers, allow faster swimmer to pass, keep your strokes narrow so as not to disturb any oncoming swimmers.
  • Proper and safe behavior is expected in the dressing rooms. Property broken or damaged by a member or guest shall be promptly paid for by the member or guest.
  • Kick boards are typically allowed only in the lap lane.
  • In the 2 foot area, jumping is only allowed off the gutter.
  • Patrons may only jump straight off the side of the pool while facing forwards. (no somersaults, twists, or jumping off backwards)
  • Diving is only allowed in the 9 – 12 ft area.
