General

The pool is in the Wedgwood neighborhood in Northeast Seattle, right next to Dahl Playfield.  You can find the address and our mailing address on the contact page.

You can find info about calling, emailing, or mailing the pool on our contact page.

Usually, the week before Memorial Day through the week after Labor Day.

With a few exceptions (like swim lessons and waterpolo), you have to be a member or a guest of a member to use the Wedgwood Pool.

Wedgwood Pool is an active place! We offer open swim time and family time, swim lessons, youth swim team, adult lap swimming, adult swim team, water aerobics, youth water polo, a diving board, basketball hop, table tennis, teen nights, social events, and the famous water show.  We also have picnic tables and grills for your summer picnic, and comfy lounge chairs for reading poolside.

Make sure that you arrive with the member, so that they can check you in.  You or the member needs to pay a guest fee and you need to sign a guest waiver.   You can sign the waiver online ahead of time for yourself and/or your children.  We recommend signing the waiver ahead if you are sending children to the pool with members and not going yourself, because the members cannot sign the waiver for your children.  Also check out the pool rules and the diaper policy.

Opening Day was May 12, 1964.

The pool depth ranges from 6 inches to 11 feet 3 inches.   It takes approximately 210,000 gallons of water to fill the pool.

Swim Lessons

Yes, we offer swim lessons for members and non-members. Children 3 and up can enroll in group and private lessons.  You can find out more about registration here:    Swim lessons

We want every child in swim lessons to be safe and to have a good time.  You can find a swim level questionnaire on the Swim Placement page and email [email protected] or call (252) 228-4534 if you have questions about the right level for your child.

Our group lessons include levels for more advanced swimmers.  More advanced swimmers might also be interested in private lessons and in our Community Swim Team, which allows swimmers to receive coaching and compete in swim meets.  The Community Swim Team is open to non-members and is a good extension for kids who have progressed through the levels of group swim lessons.

We do not offer group lessons for adults, but you can contact the office to arrange private lessons with an instructor.

We do not offer swim lessons for babies.   We offer lessons only for children 3 and older.

Membership and Waitlist

The most common way is to join the waitlist. The waitlist is long, so you will likely need to wait over a decade for your name to get to the top of the list. We know that is a very long wait, so we are working on ways to decrease the wait time while maintaining the pool experience for members.

A less common way to become a member is to buy a membership from someone when they sell their house.

You can check your waitlist status here. When your family is getting close to the top of the list, the pool will contact you to let you know that your name might come up in a given year. We cannot predict when you will reach the top of the list because it depends on how many families give up their membership in a given year.

No. Anybody can join the pool when their name comes up on the waitlist or if they buy a membership from someone when they sell their house. Members can move to a different city or neighborhood without affecting their membership status.

If you live in the near neighbor area, you are eligible to be a near neighbor user on a summer-by-summer basis, provided there is space available. (Near neighbor slots are not guaranteed and you must apply for them each year.) Near neighbor users are not members with voting rights, but in most ways can use the pool like members.

To be a near neighbor user, you must own or rent a home in the area that is most affected by pool traffic. This is a small area that includes homes to the south of the pool on 28th Ave NE for one block to NE 75th; homes on 27th, 28th and 29th Ave NE north of the pool to NE 82nd; and homes on 77th St NE and 80th St. NE between Dahl Playfield and the dead ends before 30th Ave NE. Contact the pool for the exact boundaries and to determine if you are eligible. If you live outside of the near neighbor area—even if you live very close to the area—you are not eligible to be a near neighbor user.

No. We want to ensure that people on the waiting list get to the top of the list in the order that they joined the waiting list, so we do not prioritize former members or let them move up the waitlist.

The Wedgwood Swim Team competes in the Greater Seattle Summer Swim League, which requires that swim team members have “full use of the pool.” At the Wedgwood Pool, that means that you must be a member, near neighbor user, child of an employee, or eligible houseguest of a member. If you are not in one of those groups, your children are still eligible for the Community Swim Team and the Wedgwood Water Polo Team.

We do not offer limited use memberships. For example, lap swimming is for members only. We also do not offer day passes; however, you can come to the pool for the day as a guest of a member if you come with the member and you or the member pays the guest fee.

Jobs and Employment

Wedgwood Pool has a staff that includes lifeguards, swim-lesson instructors, managers, and more.  We regularly hire new employees for each summer season. Employment at the pool is competitive and we usually make our staffing decisions very early.  We recommend that you start the application process up to a year in advance.  You can read more about the hiring process and job responsibilities on the Jobs page.
